Intaglio/Aquatint  June 3-4

Instructor: Stephanie Tyson and Jessie Karlsberger

This workshop will explore techniques of creating areas of tonal variation on copper plates with a focus on the aquatint process. The use of ground and its method of application will allow the ferric chloride to etch large areas of gradient bringing an additional element and approach to the image. We will be working on 4” x 6” plates. Limit 8

Relief  May 6-7

Instructor: Aaron Ardell

In this workshop participants will learn how to map-out, plan and implement color into a relief woodblock print through both multi-block and reduction techniques simultaneously. In addition, stencils and rolling techniques will be utilized to further increase the options available to create a small edition of richly colored prints. Limit 8

Bookbinding  August 19-20

Instructor: Annie Lee-Zimerle

In this two-day introductory class, participants will learn three simple bookbinding techniques: pamphlet-sewn, Japanese stab binding, and Coptic stitch. On the first day, you will explore sewn pamphlets with paper covers and hardcover Japanese stab binding. On the second day, you will make your own hardcover sketchbook/journal using Coptic stitch binding. This workshop is suitable for beginners and for anyone looking for basic bookbinding techniques that can be practiced at home without any specialized equipment. Limit 8
